Douglas Lake Levels
This is one of the most common
inquiries about Douglas Lake |

|
WINTER - The STORE cycle - Jan, Feb and Mar
January 1 is the lowest part of the yearly cycle. The lake is ready to capture the rain and snow of winter and spring and prevents flooding of down stream communities.

SPRING – The FILL cycle - Apr thru May
In rainy years, reservoirs are allowed to fill in preparation for June recreation season. Excess water is released to help with hydro-electricity demands. In drier years, TVA holds most of the water, releasing only minimal amounts until reservoirs reach the high water mark.

SUMMER – The HOLD cycle - Jun and Jul
Depending upon rainfall levels, water storage is at the highest levels during the peak months of the summer recreation period. This also means more water for recreation and more lower cost hydro-electricity available to supplement summer demands.

FALL - The RELEASE cycle - Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov and Dec
TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) begins an unrestricted drawdown in August and water is released thru December to ensure winter flood control.
