An Important Lesson Learned |
|
| |
| In school, I was always active in sports. It
was a welcome break from the daily chores associated
with living and working on a farm. |
| |
| In the spring of my sophomore year in high
school, I asked my coach if I could try out for a pole-vaulting position on the track team. He told me that I did not have the
required upper body
strength to be a pole-vaulter, but agreed to let me try out anyway. |
| |
| After just one week of training, the coach
stopped me on the field and said "Son, I'm sorry, but
in my opinion, you're never going to be a pole-vaulter. You need to
concentrate on the running
events and forget about pole-vaulting." |
